This
garden being 80m long and 25m wide was a challenge. The approach was to create a
connecting walkway from the house to the end of the garden. The customer is Italian and
he wanted to create a little bit of his home country in his large
garden. The influence of a Roman Garden came from the trees standing
on the left; these stood erect like columns, and were in the style
of “Via Appia” in
Rome. To complete this look a
walkway was created to curve between the trees and link the house to
the end of the garden.
At
the end of the garden granite slabs and a cast iron fountain were
installed and these are all features of a genuine Roman piazza.
The
patio in front of the house was intended to look like a Roman
Theatre when
viewed from the bottom of the garden.
At
the very end of the garden a retaining stone wall had to be built to
retain the neighbour’s garden and the trellis fence on top of this
stone wall blocks the view from the neighbouring house.
The
project will be continued by introducing columns by the fountain,
these columns not only add to the ‘Roman’ aspect they also
counterbalance with the trees running down the left hand side of the
garden.
The lower patio in front of the house has been built
to counterbalance the fountain patio, and the gravel path connects
both patios.
